It’s CrossFit Open time, guys. The first workout will be released on Thursday at 6 PM our time. If you have not yet registered, go to games.crossfit.com to do so. By that time, you will be able to join the CrossFit Caliente team.
Below is a list of important things you’ll need to know for the Open Season at Black Box Fitness.
1. Sign up for the Open WOD
You will perform he Open Workouts on Friday nights during the 7 PM class and Saturdays during the 9:00, 10:15 and 11:30 AM classes. All of these classes will be in Suite A. You may do the workout more than once. So, if you bonk on Friday, you may do it again on Saturday.
We ask that you do your absolute best to make these class times. The equipment, time and space requirements for each workout change week to week, meaning it can be a pain in the booty to do this outside of these class times. If you ABSOLUTELY CANNOT make these times and need to make up a WOD, you are responsible for finding a judge and talking to the coaches to schedule it during a time that the gym is open and it will not massively interfere with a class.
If you are traveling during the Open, check with local gyms, they may be able to accommodate you if you give them notice.
2. Watch the videos of and read the standards for each workout before you come in.
Workouts are released every Thursday at 5 PM PT (6 PM our time) along with videos and explanations for the standards of movement and scoring rules. Please watch and read them ahead of time so we don’t have to do this during class times.
3. Complete the workout with a judge. Be a judge. (This ain’t Planet Fitness y’all.)
If you plan to submit your scores (and you are planning on doing so), you must have a judge for your workout. Which means you may be judging, too. Judges must understand all of the standards for range of motion and be ready to “NO REP” if necessary. It’d also be super great if you are good at counting or drawing tally marks. If you are relatively new or uncomfortable with the idea of judging, you will not be required to do so.
Hopeful Regional competitors must have their workouts on video and judged by a Certified CF Judge.
4. Be prepared for anything.
Bring your jump rope, wrist wraps, double under pants, lifting shoes, etc. There may be a skill or weight involved in the workout that you cannot do at this point in your training. But, typically all workouts begin with something that every person can complete and get a score of at least one rep. In this instance, you have two choices: 1) keep trying, or 2) scale the rest of the workout and submit your score for the beginning of the workout with the valid repetitions.
5. Cheer your fellow CrossFitters on!
BE aggressive BE BE aggressive!
Just don’t stop! … That’s what she said.
6. Submit your scores on the Games site by Monday at 6 PM our time.
DO NOT put this off until the last minute! Do it right after you finish. If you miss a workout, none of your subsequent scores can be entered and you will be sad and your Paleo dinner will be riddled with the saltiness of tears and shame.
